BP: Failed Haiku #70

This pedometer geek writer submitted haiku and senryu to a few journals in September. Per usual, there were one or two rejections, but for the most part, this writer was pleasantly surprised to have had several poems selected.

One journal, in which there were four senryu accepted for publication, was Mike Rehling’s Failed Haiku for October. Thank you, Mike for accepting the following senryu:

About pedometergeek

A pharmacist by profession, a haiku poet by nature, I read and write. I have a book of haiku, Ohayo Haiku, and another somewhat alternative haiku book, Three Breaths, but write other genres. I also read...lots of novels! My favorite is, and remains, Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged but I am also a big Harry Potter fan. I truly am a pedometer geek strapping on my pedometer as soon as I awaken.

I can place myself in almost every verse. I had to look up the author.
And the last verse… that’s “Plogging” – “Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter. It started as an organized activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018, following increased concern about plastic pollution.”

Well sort of. I think any policing of public lands or waterways would work for Plogging too. 😉
We did that when we went kayaking… picked up a couple a dozen glass plastic bottles and some other odd things too.

    • Never heard of plogging before. You are a fount of wisdom (per usual).

Back in May, a group of people from our area met to spend a few hours picking up trash around our part of town (public areas). Among other places, I picked up all the trash on one of our beaches. I guess I was plogging, actually I walked so is that plalking?

Just being a good citizen – One day I took a two bags on a walk – one for recyclables, the other for trash. Too much bending (I was also wearing plastic gloves.) Next time I do that I think I’ll get one of those extended grabbers… 🙂

  2. I agree with you; one of those grabbers might come in handy. All that bending. I often find myself picking cans and other trash I see on trips to the post office, etc.
