Haiku…a small stone poem

Another WordPress account, Hedgerow Poems, has published a few of my poems over the past year or so. The editor is taking a well-deserved vacation after weekly posts; however, the archives of her blogs are worth checking out, but I digress.

While I write as a creative outlet, it is still gratifying to have another person appreciate them enough to accept them for publication. Here are the poems chosen to grace the pages of her online e-zine. The following haiku and a small poem can be found respectively in issues # 24, # 36, and # 22:

early morning
before the alarm
the cat

roadside rest
daisies among
the cattails

yoga class
unexpected twist–
pretzel pose

“Fresh ink?”
“Yeah, the souvenir of my trip,” the youth said,
with a shy smile.
“Very nice, truly cool.” I meant it
(although tattoos are not my thing).
Yet both of us have been ritually marked
–whether obvious or not,
by experiences in
the land of the Maori.

About pedometergeek

A pharmacist by profession, a haiku poet by nature, I read and write. I have my debut book of haiku, Ohayo Haiku, and another somewhat alternative haiku book, Three Breaths, but write other genres. I have an illustrated children's book, The Adventures of Aloysius. I also read...lots of novels! My favorite is, and remains, Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged but I am also a big Harry Potter fan. I truly am a pedometer geek strapping on my pedometer as soon as I awaken.

    Three cheers!
Ink…writers just get different stains – I have some dipping ink and a glass ink pen made in Italy.
While I do not have a bucket list – I think visiting the land of the Maori would be amazing.

Relatives can be challenging. The fist isn’t always in anger, sometimes it is held in restrained confusion. I just finished little book that was inspiring and helpful. Forgiveness of self is often harder than forgiving others… But I have given myself the whole month off so to speak – so I’m going to take it. 🙂

    • I hope you resolve your issues with your relatives. It is always disheartening, but maybe your book will help. Good luck with it.

As for New Zealand, it was amazing. If it weren’t so far away, I think I would enjoy living there. I couldn’t be away from my kids and grands, and the flight is long and expensive. I am glad we went for a visit though.
      Hugs!

I took a month off… We’ll see what happens – there is always hope.

I did get to go to a couple of different countries with my hubby. But expense is one reason we don’t travel far. And as you say the children and grands are important. 😉
