Susan Powell, who wore the crown in 1981, has remained active by performing in theatres, opera houses, and concert halls all over the world.
From New York to California to Florida to places in-between, she has starred on opera stages and theaters alike. Playing such diverse roles as Martha Jefferson in 1776 to Yum Yum in The Mikado to Vicki in The Full Monty and many more, Susan has crossed the United States and back again making her presence felt in theaters everywhere.
Not only on opera and theater stages has she been seen, but this soprano has performed with numerous orchestras including The Boston Pops (she was the featured soloist for John Williams, but I digress.), the Nashville Symphony, and the Tokyo Philharmonic.
Like BeBe Shopp and several other former pageant winners, Susan traveled to Iraq and Afghanistan to visit the troops in 2010. What a privilege that was…for the Miss A. Sisters as well as for the troops who had the chance to enjoy the talents of these women.
In addition to the acting and singing that Susan has performed since her coronation, she has hosted her own series, Home Matters, on the Discovery Channel for twelve years.
When she is not performing, she relaxes by hiking, running, and camping. This past summer she hiked 125 miles of the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire and Vermont. (This pedometer geek wishes she could claim this, but this is about Susan Powell.)
Come listen to the voices of Susan and the other eight Miss A. Sisters at the Celebrate America program which will be held on October 3, 2015.
Tickets are available through http://www.sunduskystate.com for the October 3, 2015 event, which will begin at 7:20PM. I know I will be there to see this show, which will support four local charities. For those who can’t attend, donations are greatly appreciated.
